Last entry

Today’s my last lecture with my favourite lecturer.

It didn’t hit me until class was dismissed. All of a sudden, I realised I won’t be having lectures with him anymore.

This is so bad.

:(

Socks and sweaters

today’s date: 14th Oct

Oct signifies the end of autumn/ beginning of winter. It felt like autumn never came, ‘cos all this while I tot what I was going thru was merely winter…

I absolutely have no clue for the absurd weather reports for 2010. I don’t remember 2008 or 2009 were this bad.

Anyways, a little update for my dear readers. :)

Have you ever wondered whether it is safe to live in a house with no grills?

Most people would give an affirmative answer if only they are not living in Malaysia. I used to be one of them, having this perception when I just came over to this developed country. It could also be the fact that I was living in halls of residence, so burglary rates were not high/ did not happened at all.

But when I came back to the UK the following year, my views were not the same anymore. My laptop bag was snatched, and I have friends had their valuables stolen in their respective homes when they weren’t around.

So, if you think you are in the UK, and do not need to be alert/take precautions, please take this advice.

The situation here is wayyy different than what you think it would/might be. Do not take ‘things’/things (as well) for granted.

——————————

I am preoccupied with my research on Rio Tinto, as I am undertaking the role of being a strategic consultant for this company and am given the task to evaluate their strategic position, and supposed to give advice as to the appropriate strategic actions to be undertaken.

This is not as easy as you perceived it to be. I have to collect huge amounts of data of the 4 competitors of RT, their financial results, their company’s strategy, prepare a SWOT analysis..value chains..inbound/outbound logistics…Porter’s 5 forces…SPACE matrix…BCG matrix…what are RT’s core competences/resource-based that give them a competitive advantage in terms of their competitors…compare the business units that they are good at…the recent investments/M&A’s/SA’s/IJVs they made…

Just Rio Tinto itself, they have ( I think) 9 business units operating in 22 countries.

I googled ‘value chain of Rio Tinto’, and there’s this link that supplied all the necessary information that I needed. I would need to buy a licence in order to gain access to it if only I pay approx. £400 for it.

As I am not a big institutional investor/MNC/Bill Gates’s daughter, I am NOT paying £400 for that. I would rather do the work myself:P

This would be the topic for my end-of-term examinations.

Besides, the BPTC application would begin on Oct 18…and I am applying for short-term training programmes having completed this course next march.

Too much work.

Could not wait for December 2010. Holiday! hehehe:D

Till then.

:P

Promoting Bali

Exam is in less than a month’s time, and I have so much; in fact, too many to cover.

I want another 2 distinctions for this semester.

But economics is just so bulky!

The reason why I’m here is cos my brain could no longer absorb anymore of econs. I tried forcing my brain, reading the same paragraph twice, but nothing went inside.

So I decided to take a break.

Ever thought about a place where it feels like heaven on earth?

It’s Bali.

You can’t believe this.
